Emerald Pond/Mt Washington –08-23-2019

Off I went to Emerald Pond.  Had there been more sun I think the photos would have come out better.  I then took a jaunt up Mt. Washington but no views at the top!  Completely clouded over.

Such a cool spot, and there are fish as well, and its deep! Not that I went swimming!

IMG_7437IMG_7423IMG_7424IMG_7432IMG_7434IMG_7436

I could have sat here all day.

IMG_7452IMG_7440IMG_7441IMG_7442IMG_7443IMG_7444IMG_7450IMG_7451

Such a cool drive, and while it challenges the hell out of my MD, I do it anyway.  A mile from the top it was a solid cloudbase.  I went up and there was not a view to be had!

IMG_7425IMG_7427IMG_7430IMG_7406IMG_7407IMG_7421

I picked up a funko pop figure of the Green Arrow! While I was in Boston.  I took him out of the box – I know, sacrilege, right!  And he came with me to, well, Emerald Pond – Emerald Archer…. Emerald Pond…..

Middle Sugarloaf Trail–08-20-2019

An afterwork hike – I’d done the North trail, but time didn’t allow me the extra mile that night so back I went!

IMG_7341IMG_7342IMG_7346IMG_7344IMG_7345IMG_7349IMG_7354

I got a few new props while in Boston, namely Rogue and Capt Marvel!  I have a few more but I didn’t use them.  Yes that is a smurf!

IMG_7376IMG_7356IMG_7358IMG_7359IMG_7360IMG_7363IMG_7365IMG_7369

Talk about a nice view!  It was also super warm, even though it was windy.  Well worth the hike!

IMG_7381IMG_7382IMG_7383IMG_7387IMG_7390IMG_7395IMG_7396

The whole hike took about 4 hours, mindful of the fact that 1 – I take a lot of pictures.  2 – I am a slow hiker.  The All trials states 2.6 miles, but my fitbit clocked me in at just under 4 miles.  I do take smaller steps, I do go around far more obstacles as well so it could be I just take more steps than the average hiker.

Sunset–08-18-2019

On the way home from Boston, via Portland – I saw the clouds and the sky changing so I pulled over and voila!

August Challenge! Bokeh

Bokeh: the visual quality of the out-of-focus areas of a photographic image, especially as rendered by a particular lens.

Sounds easy right?

NOT!  This was a bit more challenging for me than I had anticipated.  The sun has to be right, the focus has to be “just” right.  I didn’t succeed perfectly but I did get a few good snaps.

Back Yard Beauty and Mizpah–8-6-2019

We sent up to Mizpah for a short walk with Archer.  He is not always a fan of riding in the truck.

Then home to a gorgeous sunset.IMG_7217IMG_7219IMG_7218

‘nuff said.

Adventure with Rhys–8-5-2019

A yearly or biyearly thing, a day out with Rhys!

  IMG_7177IMG_7183IMG_7184IMG_7185

Rhys has this thing for “abandoned” house.  There are only so many out there, but we ventured around and found a few spots.

IMG_7187IMG_7188IMG_7192IMG_7193

We worked on Sunflares and angles and seeing the “big picture” this time.

IMG_7196IMG_7204IMG_7205

We stopped in at an old caboose that Rhys had fun with.  of course, he really wanted to get inside – but alas – it was locked!

IMG_7160IMG_7162IMG_7164IMG_7165

I got a new buddy, the Green Arrow!

IMG_7166IMG_7167IMG_7169IMG_7170IMG_7171IMG_7174

An awesome field of yellow!

IMG_7207IMG_7209

The day ended with Viv visiting as well, I do think Archer liked her.

Milky Way–8-4-2019

When I come home, clear nights are for going out and checking out the lovely light show that is our universe.

IMG_7118IMG_7121IMG_7122IMG_7124IMG_7125IMG_7130IMG_7126IMG_7129

I did drag my wife with me for some of it and she sat in the car.  Smile – but she came!

IMG_7149IMG_7131IMG_7133IMG_7142IMG_7143IMG_7144IMG_7145IMG_7146

I did a lot of fiddling with lights and exposure and trying to get more than trees as my foreground.  I think some worked, some didn’t, but its all a learning process!

IMG_7151IMG_7154IMG_7157IMG_7158IMG_7150

I am super happy with some of them.  Some I wish they’d turned out better, but its all in the fun of it and the adventure!

Back Yard Beauty–8-2-2019

This is sort of an on going series for me. Since I am only home for short periods of time, my back yard and home take on an ethereal feel for me.

IMG_7083IMG_7084IMG_7086

Archer had fun in the lovely back field that was planted this year behind our house.

IMG_7087IMG_7088IMG_7089IMG_7090

There is something about the “wide openness” of Maine, more so in The Valley and Aroostook County.

IMG_7091IMG_7093IMG_7104

Archer enjoying the huge back yard, and his big ball he loves to lick for hours.

IMG_7107IMG_7115IMG_7109IMG_7110IMG_7108

There really is no place like home.

The Basin–Lazy Day–7-28-2019

We had some killer heat the last week in NH and there was no long distance hiking to be had!

So I hit up the Basin one afternoon, with my camera and a towel to hang out.

IMG_7043IMG_7045IMG_7026IMG_7027IMG_7031IMG_7032IMG_7036IMG_7042

You can’t beat the water here in NH, clear and always flowing.  And the mushrooms are in abundance!

IMG_7049IMG_7048IMG_7050IMG_7063IMG_7058IMG_7061

Yes, that IS A smurf!

I picked him up when shopping for Hardy Boy books on the weekend.  I thought, well mushrooms = smurfs, right?

Hope Cemetery–7-27-2019

I took off one afternoon, a HOT afternoon, and went out to VT to check out this famous for its headstones Cemetery.

IMG_6993IMG_6985IMG_6986IMG_6987IMG_6988IMG_6989IMG_6991IMG_6992

Wow.  Some of these head stones/monuments are gorgeous.  And – HUGE!  I can’t even imagine what kind of work goes into this.

IMG_6994IMG_6998IMG_6999IMG_7000IMG_7002IMG_7004IMG_7005IMG_7007

I really liked these happy faces.  They reminded me of a prop I bring with me (and hadn’t that day, darn it!) who’s name is Ballsy.

IMG_7008IMG_7009IMG_7010IMG_7011IMG_7012IMG_7013IMG_7014IMG_7015

Did you see the Superman inspired headstone?  I love it!  I want one.  I know my wife won’t let me.  But, I LOVED it, none the less!

IMG_7016IMG_7018IMG_7019

That race car must have weighed 4 tons.  It is huge and gorgeous.  These photos were nowhere near my comfort zone of taking pictures, however, I think that’s part of photography, getting out of your comfort zone.
