Settlement Quarry and Edgar Tennis Preserve

Two days without rain saw me running out after 8hrs on the road and taking sometime to hike!

The quarry is a good hike (1 mile is round trip) and can be more – it was raining on and off – if you’re a rock hound, and want to see the MASSIVE amounts of granite that this place produced it’s a must see while in the Stonington/Deer Isle area.

The Edgar Tennis Preserve is a great hike – I headed for the furthest of trails (there are others and I’ll have to go back another time).  There is a pink granite beach, an old cemetery, and the trails are knotted with tree roots, the ground worn away by many feet and their passage to these wonderful little spots.  This is really a must see – best at low tide, I went at high tide, due to work – but will go again at low tide the granite beaches are GREAT!

Barred Island

I ended up with a shorter day today – so I decided to

skip the gym (you know many of my blogs start off that way!) – and hit up Barred Island – It’s a mile in and a mile out – you  MUST go during low tide and you’ll have 2hrs before and 2hrs after (the hike in is about 45 mins)

The trail is worn, the earth bare to the snarled roots of the surrounding trees.

Then as you come closer to the shore, feet and time have cut a swath of earth away and revealed the granite beneath – making for a solid walk way to the beach

hdr-IMG_7046

Then – the beach – at low tide you’ve got about 2hrs before and 2hrs after the “low point” of the tide.  You can walk over to the Island and explore it – along with the shore – it’s a great view – I’d love to hit it up at sunset – but not having to walk back thru that trail at deep dusk

It’s a real fun walk, you’ve got sand, rocky area, lovely huge granite rocks – and nothing like that great sea air.

Beach Time

I decided to skip the gym one afternoon, and go running around on the rocky shores of Sand Beach.

Birds of a Feather

As I was doing paperwork one afternoon, this guy was fluttering around making sure I was doing my job, I guess!

After Work Snaps 4.3.2017

Since we are supposed to get rain for the next few days – I decided that I was skipping the gym and hitting the sunset beat.

There are tons of nooks and crannies here in Deer Isle and Stonington.  I’m having fun seeking them out and I know I haven’t even scratched the surface.

There are various beaches here on the Island, and learning just where the sun sets and rises, is an every changing curve – getting to know the island while driving for work has its advantages Smile

A picture is worth 1000 words, and sometimes, words fail you – so the pictures shall speak.

Deer Isle and Stonington, Maine

I really do enjoy this island – after work on a Friday, I decided to go snapping pictures instead of going to the gym.

I do enjoy taking a look at things from different perspectives – and sometimes up close and person is best.

Check out the clouds – cotton candy in a sea of blue

I have yet to go inside the Opera House (yes, yes, I will go maybe when Jules visits)

I don’t get “sunsets” where I am living, instead I get that sweet glow of blue, oranges, and yellows – which can be better sometimes.

I can’t wait for longer days to hang out on my porch, do my nightly scheduling, and watch the boats come in.

Around and About – Maine

One of the best parts of working this home care job, is the places I go and things I see.  Typically, its go, go, go.  But I can get out of the car, snap 10 pictures in under five minutes.  I just have to drive fast to make up for the time, right?  (I’m joking!)

These are the same pictures, one is HDR’ed slightly more than the other – its an old rushed out truck sitting somewhere around Harbour Side, Me.  On these wicked twisty, turn roads.

This is what happens during laundry time – I get bored and take pictures of things….. name that object!

I drove this area last year, but this lovely motorcycle, I had never seen (more than likely covered by snow).  This year, during one of the many thaws, I spotted it on my way home and snagged a few pictures.  Interesting how the rust bleeds through the paint – they sure don’t make em like they used too!
