You never know what you’ll find right in front of your face – I opened the door and – oh, wonder what that will look like up close
More of that sea fog, or mist, or – damn it, it’s cold!
Turkey! I never noticed the cool colors on these guys. This one below is cruising – check out the fly of snow at his feet. My friend, Ricky, told me to “bring him some!”
This is over in Blue Hill – near reversing falls – it’s totally frozen over – brrrr!
For weeks! I’d been passing this “crate Christmas tree”. First it was snowing, then it was cloudy, another day the sun was to low – but then, finally! Voila! Sun topper!
Then the next morning – this phenomenoun known as “sea fog” is what a patient called it – began – why, cuz it was so DARN COLD!!! 25 below. I mean, when the ocean freezes, that’s saying something, right?
Then a cold sunset! I hit up one place – not sure what cove its called (Weed or Webb, not sure!)
I bent down to pick up that lil sliver of GREEN sea glass (see it!) and thought – oh – frozen seaweed… what will look like up close…..
On some nights, you just know when the light is going to make the sky a fiery orange…..
Sometimes you take a few pictures and the light shifts again, different refractions on the sky, the water, on the atoms in the air….. and you come away with a whole different look….
Caterpillar Hill is a good climb and then you’re almost at Deer Isle, right after CH, you can stop at ECS – Eggemogin Country Store – where you can grab a slice of pizza, some great chicken nuggets, fresh subs or lobstah….
LONG distance view of the bridge
The sunflowers are in Lille Maine and the sunsets are in Stonington and Deer Isle, Maine – taken on the same day!
I have to admit. The sunsets on the coast are wicked – it has to be the whole ocean thing.
I got to spend the 4th of July working, and then taking pictures. Stonington had fun for the 4th – food on the docks, and fireworks… I met Shannon Stapleton, a photographer who works for Reuters on the dock. We talked photography and the Island.
This wonderful rainbow appears often over the water if its been foggy and clears or raining because of the way the sun catches the water crystals in the air.
The theme this year was: PIRATES!
I’ve been working on blur and focus – my new camera works different my old one – finding that balance has been interesting.
Light, shadows, colors and details.
I have a thing for doors. Like this one.
I have never taken pictures of fireworks before. So I googled. I do not have a trigger bulb release. I had to use a 2 second delay with means I had to time the shots out really well. Or, leave it to luck. I think it was 50/50
I played around with zooming in and out – the challenge in that is – focus.
Since we are supposed to get rain for the next few days – I decided that I was skipping the gym and hitting the sunset beat.
There are tons of nooks and crannies here in Deer Isle and Stonington. I’m having fun seeking them out and I know I haven’t even scratched the surface.
There are various beaches here on the Island, and learning just where the sun sets and rises, is an every changing curve – getting to know the island while driving for work has its advantages
A picture is worth 1000 words, and sometimes, words fail you – so the pictures shall speak.
